Winter in Arizona, most people tend to think of Arizona and the heat or the Grand Canyon. Arizona has so much terrain to offer, you simply can not see it all In 1 day.
1. Desert botanical gardens
Every day in December is Las Noches De Las Luminarias $25 adults $13 kids
It is very romantic, quiet, peaceful and rejuvenating.
2. Verde Valley train
Camp Verde, Arizona is in the Verde Valley and is usually over looked, for the Polar Express…but If you are near Camp Verde this is an absolute must!!!! Wonderful Christmas Village and all.
3. Zoo lights at the Phoenix Zoo
Zoo lights is open towards the end of November and until Mid January So there is plenty of time to go, not just Christmas.$18 entrance fee. The weather in Phoenix in winter is why so many people choose to live there. Do not miss this.
4. Outdoor Ice-skating
There are a few different options of places to go, we like City Skate, at City Scape in downtown Phoenix (pictured) $12 day $15 night. The beautiful Christmas tree in the rink is perfect for pictures. You can shop, eat, skate, people watch and make memories all in one afternoon.
5. Light Parade. Anywhere
We live in Payson, AZ and have a great little parade down main street, we entered My Jeep Wrangler this year, spend the whole day decorating and drove in the parade with hot chocolate. Most of the town comes out. It is very much a welcome to the holidays day. William’s, AZ has an awesome parade also. You can find them all over the state and they are very romantic, and beautiful. Here it’s cold, which is helpful for December, and Hot Chocolate.
Pictured- Our light parade this year, Payson, AZ and family we have in William’s, who won 1st place this year!
6. Bearizona In Williams, AZ
You can stay in your car and drive through this, So it is perfect for a snowy day, our kids love this also.
Pictured below Bearizona statue, Lights at the Jaguar exhibit.
Anyone who has seen the red rocks of Sedona, knows that there is not a list of things to do in Arizona that does not include Sedona. Great shopping, great food, wonderful little boutiques and AMAZING hiking. (Pictured Oak Creek Canyon and Devils bridge)
8. The Polar Express
Williams, AZ We did this with our little ones, however, definitely something I would have loved to do before kids as well. Everyone wears pajamas and you can feel the magic when Santa gets on the train!
9. Butterfly Wonderland & Odysea Aquarium
This is a wonderful place to spend a few hours. Beautiful and great for the soul.
10. South Mountain look-out or Pinnacle Peak park for a hike.
Pinnacle peak park has a various range of hikes from easy to difficult. South Mountain has a group of great trails also, It also offers a scenic drive up look-out that is definitely best at Sunset. (Pictured South mountain look-out and Pinnacle peak)
I hope this gave you enough reason to want to come visit us. It is beautiful here year round, just do not come to Phoenix in July and let that be your opinion of Arizona!!
